So here I am, with some big goals for this year – heck, big goals for this half-year. I’m hoping you like the idea of more Paid to Play LIVE events, a longer reach for potential guests, an expanded ability to do video episodes
And I need your help to achieve them.
I’d like you to back the Podcast on Patreon. I’d like you to spread the word about the Podcast, tell your friends about it, let them know about the Patreon campaign and what I’m hoping to achieve with it.
But what I’d also like you to do is tell me what I can give you in return.
See, it’s easy for me to sit in the library and brainstorm things I can offer at certain funding levels (and we’ll get to those soon). But it’s hard for a person to really see the value that other folks find in them.
So before I get into my ideas for Patreon funding levels and rewards, let me ask you:
What reward/s would YOU like
for supporting The Paid to Play Podcast on Patreon?
Comment below; comment on Facebook; tweet your ideas to @ByRobF; email me at podcast at robf dot com dot au; however you get your idea to me, just get your idea to me!
Creative constraints
I welcome all your ideas, and the wilder ones could open up possibilities that I’d never considered! That said, though, please mind of the following:
- I am good at writing and talking (both with people and narrating).
- I am pretty good at drawing, video and voice acting.
- I’m valuing my time (which is what’s spare after recording interviews, editing and uploading episodes, the nine-to-five, sleeping, housework and enjoying my wife’s company) at $70 per hour – so if you want me to do something time / effort-intensive, it’ll probably require a larger backing rate or an only-after-X-straight-months-of-contributions reward level.
- I’m putting every dollar toward my Patreon goals (plus skimming ten percent off the top for myself – I’ve factored that in to the milestones), so I’ll only be using existing resources and equipment to create your rewards for now – later / larger rewards might include purchasing supplies.
My Ideas for Patreon Reward Levels
One request from my Patreon team is that I swap funding from a per-episode to a per-month basis. That does make life a little easier from an organising perspective, so I’m putting them down as monthly goals.
With my current plan for twenty fortnightly episodes, that means ten months of backing a year. And, per my last post, I’m aiming for US$200 per month (which comes to around three hours’ effort on Patreon rewards).
$5 per month
- Access to the posting / commenting wall on the Patreon website!
$10 per month
All previous rewards, plus:
- A personalised short video thank-you for backing me on Patreon!
- A one-minute voice file (useful for your voicemail system or answering service).**
$20 per month
All previous rewards, plus:
- Access to Each Episode’s Launch Party! I release a new episode once a fortnight, which means I’m online to make sure everything’s operating smoothly. Seems the perfect time to throw an online party!
At this funding level, you can come hang out with me (most likely via Google Hangouts) and fellow backers to talk about this week’s episode and our own efforts to get paid to play. And if the guest for the episode being released is available and willing, we’ll have a Q&A with him/her/them too!
I might put a cap of ten, maybe fifteen, backers on this.*
$40 per month
All previous rewards, plus:
- Your own personal episode of Paid to Play! You get to come on the show whether as an audio or video guest and talk about the things you love doing and your paid to play dreams (plus any your progress you’ve made). Any words on favourite episodes of the Podcast and / or how it’s helped you would also be welcome! (Episode length: 20 minutes.)
AND- A monthly, online one-on-one, half-hour video get-together (using Skype, Google Hangouts or similar online utility) where you and I talk about your own steps to get paid to play. We’ll schedule as best we can (please keep in mind that I’m in Australia and work a day job). I might put a cap of four backers on this.*
OR - A monthly audio recording of up to twenty minutes. You provide the words, I’ll record them and send you the file (most likely via Dropbox or Google Drive). I make no claims as to the accuracy of any requested accents!**
